Born in 1968, he specialises in mechanical process engineering, bio engineering, automotive engineering, engine construction and emission control.
Besides patent processing, which includes representing clients before the European Patent Office and WIPO, one focus of Mr. Rütten's work is to provide advice and support on the implementation and operation of electronic information systems with respect to monitoring competitors’ IP-rights and managing ideas and inventions.
Mr. Rütten graduated from RWTH Aachen University in 1997 with a degree in engineering, specialising in bio engineering. After university, he worked in the field of mechanical engineering, initially as an engineer in application technology and later in project planning and marketing.
Mr. Rütten started his patent career at the central patent department of Rheinmetall AG, Düsseldorf in 2002, and was in particular responsible for the automotive supplier Pierburg GmbH. In 2004, together with Mr. ter Smitten, he successfully started up a new patent department at Pierburg GmbH. Mr. Rütten has been a professional representative of the European Patent Office since 2006 and became a German patent attorney in 2011.
Mr. Rütten is a member of the Chamber of German Patent Attorneys and a member of the Institute of the European Representatives (EPI).
